EKSPOLY Rector, Ajeigbe Advocates Harmony Between Humans and Animals at Welfare Seminar*

The Animal Welfare Research Network, in collaboration with Ekiti State Polytechnic, on Thursday December 5th, 2024 held a seminar aimed at promoting the ethical treatment and sustainable care of animals. The One day seminar was declared open by the Polytechnic Rector, Dr. S.O. Ajeigbe, who was represented by the Registrar, Mr. J.A.O. Olorunsola.

Speaking on behalf of the Rector, Mr. Olorunsola emphasized the critical role animals play in ecosystems, livelihoods, and communities, urging participants to reaffirm their commitment to animal welfare. He highlighted the importance of the seminar in fostering empathy, responsibility, and ethical practices towards animals, stating: "Together, through collaboration, advocacy, and education, we can build a society where both humans and animals thrive harmoniously."

The seminar with the theme: "Recent Advances in Positive Animal Welfare: Applications in Nigeria and Beyond," was convened by a lecturer from the department of Agricultural Technology, Ekiti State Polytechnic, Iṣan Ekiti, Dr. F.G. Oyeniyi. 

The event featured expert-led sessions addressing key topics such as: Positive Animal Welfare Dynamics, Positive Animal Welfare – Behavior Says a Lot, Biodiversity: A Crucial Tool for Animal Welfare Enhancement

Participants include members of the Animal Welfare Society of Nigeria, researchers, and stakeholders committed to advancing the welfare of animals in Nigeria and beyond.

The seminar serves as a platform for meaningful discussions and partnerships aimed at inspiring change and fostering a harmonious coexistence between humans and animals
