EKSPOLY RECTOR, AJEIGBE SEEKS COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR DEVELOPMENT*

*The Rector of Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti, Dr. Sunday Osinkolu Ajeigbe, has described the recent approval granted by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the commencement of 17 additional academic programmes at the institution as a major boost to local economic activities and the socio-educational advancement of the host community.

Dr. Ajeigbe made this known during a courtesy visit to the Onisan of Isan-Ekiti, Oba Gabriel Ayodele Adejuwon, in his palace on Wednesday, 30th April 2024. He noted that the expansion of academic offerings would significantly increase the population of students and staff, thereby stimulating commerce and other service driven ventures in the town.

The Rector appealed to the monarch to use his revered position to encourage local farmers to release lands earlier acquired for the Polytechnic’s use, in the spirit of development and progress. He emphasized the importance of communal cooperation in ensuring the success of the institution, which he described as a shared asset of the town.

Dr. Ajeigbe further called on the people of Isan-Ekiti to invest in building habitable accommodation for staff and students, describing it as a vital contribution to the growth of the Polytechnic. He also urged the community to support land availability for staff housing and requested a parcel of land to establish a fish pond to support the newly introduced Fisheries Technology programme.

In response, Oba Adejuwon expressed appreciation for the Polytechnic’s developmental strides and pledged to look into all the Rector’s requests. The monarch, while promising to mobilize community support, also appealed to the Polytechnic management to consider employing qualified indigenes of Isan-Ekiti into its workforce, as part of efforts to foster inclusivity and local empowerment.

Accompanying the Rector on the visit were the Deputy Rector, Mr. Ebenezer Ajayi; the Registrar, Mrs. Abimbola Yetunde Adewumi; and the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Ayodeji Akerele.
