EKSPOLY HOSTS EKITI ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION FOR OVERSIGHT VISIT

*...as lawmakers commend Polytechnic’s infrastructural transformation, pledge legislative support*

The Management of Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan Ekiti, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, played host to the Ekiti State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Education, Science and Technology during an oversight visit to assess the institution’s developmental progress and fund utilization.

Welcoming the lawmakers to the campus, the Rector, Dr. Sunday Osinkolu Ajeigbe, highlighted notable strides made by the Polytechnic, including the recent approval of 19 new academic programmes at both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). He also informed the visiting team about the ongoing construction of student hostels and other critical development efforts aimed at positioning the Polytechnic as a centre of academic excellence.

However, Dr. Ajeigbe also drew attention to some pressing challenges confronting the institution, such as inadequate health facilities and personnel, lack of connection to the national electricity grid, and the urgent need for comprehensive perimeter fencing for enhanced security.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the House Committee, Hon. Adeyemi Awoniyi, lauded the Polytechnic's Management for the remarkable facelift the institution has witnessed in recent times. He explained that the visit was to evaluate how the institution has fared with the subvention given by the State Governor and budgetary allocations approved by the House of Assembly.

Hon. Awoniyi, accompanied by other committee members, expressed satisfaction with the level of infrastructure and academic progress seen on the ground. He assured the Polytechnic of the legislature’s continued support in addressing its critical needs.

The Committee was taken on a tour of key facilities within the institution by the Rector, who was joined by other principal officers including the Deputy Rector, Mr. E.A. Ajayi; the Registrar, Mrs. Abimbola Yetunde Adewumi ; the Bursar, Mr. Oludayo Awe; and the Pytechnic Librarian, Dr. Ayodeji Akerele.

The visit is seen as a positive step towards strengthening the relationship between the institution and the State Assembly, while reinforcing government’s commitment to technical education and manpower development in Ekiti State.
