EKITI STATE POLYTECHNIC HOLDS FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, FOCUSES ON INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY*

The Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti, on Monday, July 21, 2025 flagged off its maiden International Conference at the institution’s 250-Seater Capacity Building, drawing scholars and professionals from across Nigeria and beyond to deliberate on innovative solutions for a sustainable future.

With the theme “Innovating For A Sustainable Future: Bridging Science, Policy and Society,” the three-day virtual and in-person hybrid event aims to foster interdisciplinary discourse and collaborations that transcend academic boundaries.

Declaring the conference open, the Rector, Dr. Sunday Osinkolu Ajeigbe, welcomed participants from diverse tertiary institutions and research bodies, urging them to engage with open minds and use the platform to initiate partnerships that could shape a transformative legacy for generations to come.

The keynote address was delivered by the pioneer Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Johnson Kayode Adesodun, whose address centred on the theme of the conference, emphasized the urgency of aligning innovation with sustainability. The second keynote address was delivered by Dr Cornelius Adewale from Washington State University,  USA, focused on: "Building A Greener Future: The Roles of Innovations in Achieving Global Sustainability Goals."

Two renowned researchers, Dr. K.E. Elegbeleye and Dr. O.L. Oluwagbuyi presented lead papers that further expanded on the conference theme. Dr. Elegbeleye's paper focused on “Integrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Policy for Resilient Agricultural Systems,” while Dr. Oluwagbuyi spoke on “The Roles of Management and Humanities in Sustainable Development."

The event also featured goodwill messages, including one from the royal father of the host community, HRM Oba Gabriel Ayodele Adejuwon, the Onisan of Isan-Ekiti, who praised the institution’s commitment to intellectual advancement and community development.

Principal Officers of the Polytechnic who were in attendance also delivered goodwill messages. 

According to the Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, Mr. E.A. Ajayi, the conference will run until Wednesday, July 23, 2025, featuring more paper presentations, panel discussions, and virtual breakout sessions.

This inaugural international conference marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Ekiti State Polytechnic as a hub for academic excellence and solution-driven research.
